Think about it, just for a moment (aka forever):
✨ Welcome kisses at the door ✨
Tommy grabbing Buck's waist. Buck taking Tommy's face between his hands. Buck making a step back, playing hard to get with a smug smile just for Tommy to grab him by his shirt and pull him. Tommy slamming the door shut and pushing Buck against it.
Just a peck and them hugging for a while after a difficult shift.

It's interesting how Buck's love interests are all written in a way that ends because of the reason they meet/happen in the first place and then of course, we have Eddie.
Abby, who changes Buck's view of a healthy relationship but then turns around and ghosts him, making him wait for months on end and letting him realize she's not coming back on his own.
Ali, who meets Buck during a dangerous situation in his line of work and then leaves him for how dangerous his work is.
Taylor, who lashes out at Buck for using her as a fake date and saying she thought she could trust Buck to be a friend who then ends up using him for her career and chose to put his friends in danger.
Natalia, who's there to help him embrace and deal with his temporary death but it leads to their break up because of the constant talk surrounding death when Buck's not comfortable with it.
We can't confirm for Tommy till it ends but it's important to note how he offers to get Buck into his interests like flying and muay thai yet doesn't show effort with Buck's interests like dressing up according to the bachelor party theme despite Buck being stressed about it. And we also have the fact that the entire reason they got together was due to Buck's jealousy for Eddie which he then claims to be was for Tommy. Makes me think they are either going to end because of differing interests OR because of the jealousy issue popping up again.
Funnily enough, every scene above has an Eddie parallel:
Eddie co-parents with Buck and not only does this not stop after a dangerous event but Eddie also has Buck down as a legal guardian (healthy relationship - Abby).
Eddie is in the same dangerous line of work and they have each other's backs. This happens right off the bat too.(dangerous job - Ali).
The Lawsuit era and The Dispatch era - both where they "betray" each other but manage to work through it (betrayal/lie - Taylor).
Eddie doesn't pressure Buck to talk about his temporary death until Buck's ready and is more focused about him living than in his death (death doula - Natalia).
Eddie who has different interests than Buck (poker, basketball and UFC/MMA) but also manages to show interest and actively takes part in whatever Buck comes up with; he suggests their outfit for the themed party AND ends up staying there for Buck even when others leave (different hobbies & showing interest/taking part - Tommy).
Absolutely fascinating when you start noticing that Buck's relationships keep failing for one reason or another and then we have him and Eddie who face the same sort of situations but they still come out of it stronger together.
It's clear that there's a reason Buck is able to overcome anything when it comes to Eddie (that conversation with Maddie about being there for each other even at their worst 👀) and we've already established that everything Eddie looks for in a partner is already something he has found in Buck. So really, all that's left is for them to realize that hey, the one I'm looking for is right in front of me! 🤷🏽
And yes, it's been said to death (hah) but you don't find it son you make it. And Buck and Eddie have already made it.

ravi headcanon time
- i’m a pansexual ravi truth
- ravi comes from a wealthy family (they could afford his hospital bills AND this man owns rental properties in Cali? thats generational wealth bby)
- ravi has 2+ siblings (buck’s not the first to yap at him, okay?)
- he has a good relationship with his parents (funny, relaxed father + stricter mum. he secretly loves her concern and advice and pestering)
- bobby tries to adopt him like buck (and eddie) and he’s like “hey cap, you’re a great guy and ily, but you kinda act like my dad” and bobby is like ???? bc he IS his dad and ravi brings up his bio father and how close they are and bobby can’t believe someone in the 118 actually has good parents. like wdym you are happy to go see your whole family ?????????
- ravi has a nonbinary partner. the 118 thinks he is poly bc he keeps saying “they” and shows photos of what seems like at least two people (a masc person and a femme one) but one day the team meets ravi’s person and ask abt the “others” uhhhhm no that’s a single genderfuck i fear
- ravi genuinely thought buck and eddie were together when he met them and he can’t figure out wtf their relationship is. divorced? and remarried? friends to lovers? idiot4idiot? queerplatonic?
- ravi doesn’t mind buck talking abt eddie its that just ravi is done with how little sense it all makes “so he went to texas with our son” “damn another divorce?” “no his wife died, they didn’t divorce” ??? “anyway, he’s the best father in the world” “go back his wife???” “yeah, she was killed in an accident years ago. remember that random lady he cheated with? they looked identical” “he cheated on you with his dead wife’s doppelgänger??!??” “no he cheated on his gf” “HE HAS A GF?!?” “well not anymore” like how can ravi make this make sense
- hen and ravi are secretly besties bc they both detect Bullshit everywhere.
- chimney gaslights ravi over everything. absolute bold faced lies. it makes understanding the 118 even harder.
- ravi didn’t know maddy was buck’s sister for years so now he doesn’t know if its gaslighting or true
- ravi and his partner have a cat who is their child. ravi loves that thing. his princess. they found it at a shelter and it was so fluffy and round. perfect.
- ravi has book smarts more than street smarts but doesn’t know it. can recall maths and literature from school but he will see his buddies going through ptsd and be like “weekly crash outs am i right?” then high fives them
- he texts all lowercase with ironic emojis and it confuses everyone but eddie who was a twitter girlie and has a son. buck pretends he understands but doesn’t
- chim and ravi love to match esp with sunglasses. even though chim gaslights ravi, that’s his little buddy. that’s his guy.
- ravi sends texts to the 118 family minus buddie abt buddie and they give neutral group reactions then all dm each other going crazy. the one person who remembers to dm ravi is karen.
- ravi babysits chris and denny once and is immediately initiated into a trio. like chris + buddie is family. henren + denny too. chris and denny are a cute duo. but The Trio. the boys are BACK. chris and denny have a chill new friend with a car, a steady income, and every video game ever. like yes game nights with mums/dads are epic but ravi doesn’t know not to let them say fuck.
-ravi is a little cutie pie princess. like yes he’s a big strong man but he is a sweatheart. not quite a himbo but definitely has his dumb blond moments. like yeah he will volunteer for terrorism bc those are his emotional support unhinged gay coworkers.
- ravi is a bobby lives truther. obviously bobby IS alive in my fanon but like ravi never believed he died he was like nah nah you guys are trusting the GOVERNMENT. not on my watch.
- going back to the lack of street smarts, sometimes he forgets his filter and will just speak his mind. he’s smart and perceptive so its usually accurate but he will spill devastating truths. he sees eddie back in LA and goes “thank god you’re here. buck rlly needs some dick” and eddie is like ??????? then maddie has the baby and ravi is like “thank god bobby didn’t die bc that baby is not a robert…. so what’s his name?” “kevin” “maybe robert isn’t such a bad idea”
okay that’s what i can think of for now. lmk your headcanons. obviously i’m right but like are YOU?

Truthfully, with the way they introduced Eddie this episode, you'd think that he was a former character from seasons ago who's making a surprise cameo.

I don’t quite know how my brain got here right now - but I’m thinking thoughts about the way the show has been paralleling Buck and Eddie with each other - as well as with the canon couples on the show - but in a very specific and interesting way - because when you take Abby and Tommy as a collective - they are a parallel of Shannon.
All three are firsts and not lasts for Eddie and Buck.
Abby and Tommy have been intentionally connected on the show (yes making use of a fluke name commonality but that’s what makes it especially clever and interesting) on several levels as being basically two sides of the same coin - Abby was his first serious relationship and Tommy his first queer relationship - they are both Bucks firsts and not his lasts. In the same way that Shannon was Eddie’s first and not his last - the show chose to have buck point out that Shannon was the first girl Eddie slept with - implying she wasn’t his first girlfriend (something that was confirmed in the cut Eddie/Chris conversation about the lake.
If you think of Shannon as two entities instead of one person - Texas Shannon and LA Shannon - it becomes easier to spot the parallels.
Texas Shannon is paralleled with Abby - both leave their respective homes and don’t come back - both Buck and Eddie expected them to return when they had done taking some time for themselves - finding themselves.
While LA Shannon is paralleled with Tommy - LA Shannon asks for a divorce after Eddie wants to have the second child he thinks is coming and to get remarried etc - to go all in with her and their relationship. He is making a decision based on flawed thinking and external expectations after a conversation with a ‘elder’ (supposedly wiser figure - Bobby).
Which is very much a parallel to Tommy dumping Buck after Buck decides to go all in and ask Tommy to move in and starts talking about marriage - after the hurdle of discovering Tommys past with Abby and having talked to an elder (in this case Josh who is a queer elder).
Both narratives are connected to commiting to something due to societal expectations - for Shannon it was becoming pregnant outside of marriage in a Catholic dominant society and therefore ending up married to Eddie.
While for Tommy it was having to mask himself as a straight man because he was in the army and firefighting - both environments that were toxicly masculine and heteronormative at the time Tommy was in them and so he ended up in a relationship with Abby - which then sets up the circumstances for Abby to feel the need to run to find herself.
Both Texas Shannon and Abby then feel the need to run - to find themselves because of the environment they find themselves in and this sets up LA Shannon and Tommy as second firsts for Eddie and Buck. And both LA Shannon and Tommy have grown and evolved since Texas Shannon and Abby and both can see that their respective relationships are not meant to last - that they’re not the right fit - that they are forced and they have the personal development to choose end them before they cause more hurt and damage.
It’s a great play on being firsts and second chances but not lasts and it ultimately shows the suitability of buddie - they make the same mistakes in a different way - both having their first independent of each other but having their second chance/ second first whilst within each others orbits - and because they are ultimately looking for the same thing it is all serving to spin them closer to each other to a point where they can understand what their lasts look like - and that it’s each other

(possibly) controversial opinion:
i miss when 9-1-1 had like one or two Big Things per season that got pretty decently spread out throughout the season, and we got episodes that were intently character focused in between, rather than the 50,000 big dramatic moments in every episode, only broken apart by like maybe one fluff episode, with an nde every two seconds
bc if an nde does happen in 814/15, that will be two major nde plotlines in the span of five episodes, with little to no break in between (especially since we know 811 and 812 are both going to be very call heavy/drama heavy episodes), and will be the fourth nde this season (athena, denny, maddie, and whoever in 814/15)
i understand that nde’s are an easy way to give a sense of emotional intensity that can be used to wrap up a certain arc or plotline, but when it’s used for every single one, all it does is get stressful, and repetitive, and it takes me out of it- especially when we used to have a pretty decent balance a few seasons ago.
like, im sorry two episodes in the middle of a half-season should not “feel more like a season finale” right after we just had maddie go through “the worst thing she’s ever experienced” that is apparently “worse than doug”
it was more excusable in s7 when there were only 10 episodes to cram a full season into (even though i still don’t think they necessarily had to) but tim has not slowed down since, and now we have an unbalanced clunky season that had a crazy first few episodes, followed by the backhalf of 8a that was kind of lack luster and bland in terms of plot, and then we’re launching into 8b that is going to be fast-paced and heavy pretty much throughout.
don’t get me wrong- i actually am really enjoying the maddie arc these first two eps back, but an entire half-season of stuff like this is just too much and i miss the old vibe of the show; i miss my silly little weewoo shenanigans that had small bits of drama infused, rather than just drama drama drama drama with tiny bits of weewoo shenanigans instead.
(although- i think that’s in part due to the fact that tim made the god awful decision to bring **** **** writers with him when he moved back to 911, but i digress 🤷)
anyway- i was just kinda laying here thinking about it and i just… i’m kinda tired of either being put through the emotional ringer every episode and not getting a chance to breathe or sitting and watching nothing happen for 3 episodes because the writers (*cough* tim *cough*) wanted to wait and put all the big stuff in the backhalf of the season all at once 😭😭
